A female in her late teens was the sole occupant of a car which left the road and crashed down a bank in the Coromandel this morning.
The vehicle left the road at high speed and rolled multiple times, coming to rest 40 metres down the bank just south of the Coromandel airfield, an Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust spokesman said.
Rob Gemmell, a paramedic for the Trust, said the teen was extremely lucky to be alive considering the damage to the car.
The crash happened on Manaia Rd, in Te Kouma in the Coromandel about 7.05am, northern police communications Inspector Chris Tate said.
