A helicopter was deployed to Coronet Peak following reports a paraponter may have crashed.
However, after a search and rescue team checked the area, it was found the object was not a paraponter - it was the cover for a snow machine, police said.
A police spokeswoman said police were called at 1.20pm, after a member of the public spotted "something orange'' on the mountain and believed a paraponter may have crashed.
