Reporters are not likely to be banned from Government consultation hui on the foreshore and seabed, although they may not be allowed to record details of some discussions.
Wira Gardiner, brought in by the Government to chair the 11 hui, said yesterday that any decisions over reporting would be made by the individual marae hosting the hui, which start near Gisborne tomorrow.
But most marae had indicated reporters were welcome to record the powhiri and conduct interviews before and after the meetings.
They would be unlikely to be able to record the meetings, but would be free to attend them.
