A British woman found in bed with a New Zealand man in a Dubai apartment had previously worked as lapdancer, it was reported today.
Former Aucklander Toby Carroll and Dannielle Spencer were arrested after calling police when Mr Carroll's jilted former lover burst into the apartment threatening them with a knife.
The three have been in custody since Christmas awaiting possible trial - Mr Carroll and Ms Spencer for having illicit sex and his Brazilan ex-girlfriend, identified only as Priscilla, for violence and criminal damage.
Sex outside marriage in Dubai is illegal.
Ms Spencer is believed to have locked herself in the bathroom while Mr Carroll called police.
Priscilla allegedly smashed various items in Mr Carroll's apartment before police arrived.
Mr Carroll, in his 30s, worked as a property analyst at HSBC Middle East in Dubai.
HSBC has confirmed he was still an employee.
Britain's The Sun website reported today that Ms Spencer left England in 2003 after working as a lapdancer in Hull and Birmingham,
Her CV said she was worked in Dubai as a radio reporter and in property sales.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said it was aware of Mr Carroll's case and the New Zealand Consulate-General in Dubai had been providing consular assistance.
"We can't go into specifics or release any further details at this stage for legal and privacy reasons," a spokesperson told NZPA today.
Many foreigners have fallen foul of local laws in the United Arab Emirates which strictly control drinking and ban sex outside marriage. Public displays of affection are also illegal.
