A repeat drunk driver has lost an appeal against his two-and-a-half-year jail sentence.
Glenn Frederick Moon was last October sentenced to jail on one charge of driving with excess breath alcohol.
Moon had been drinking at the Opononi Hotel, 50km southwest of Kaikohe, when he was pulled over by police on May 21, 2009.
He was found to be a disqualified driver and well over the legal breath alcohol limit.
Moon also had 10 other drink driving convictions and 15 driving while disqualified convictions.
He appealed his sentence in the High Court at Whangarei on the ground it was excessive and inappropriate.
But Justice Paul Heath said Moon had repeatedly flouted court orders and his sentence was "squarely within sentencing bounds".
"The claims of remorse ring hollow, having regard to the appellant's background. The time has come for his actions to speak much louder than his words," he said.
