A spate of unavailabilities led to Dalefield defaulting their Wellington premier division men's hockey match to Northern United on Saturday.
Manager Dave Blackwood said Dalefield were without eight of their regular players, four of whom were involved in the national under-18 boys tournament in Palmerston North, and, consequently, there was no chance of them fielding a competitive unit.
The Wairarapa under-18 boys finished a creditable seventh at the national tourney, the best result coming against Canterbury, the eventual champions.
Their match went to penalty strokes with Canterbury taking the honours there.
A win in that game could have taken Wairarapa into the semifinals.
