The new Megane range will gain a sporty coupe instead of the traditional three-door hatch version.
Renault design director Patrick Le Quement said it would be launched before the end of the year with a more conventional five-door. While the new Megane will be "a strong design statement", Le Quement believes it will not polarise opinions in the same way as the current model.
"The new model won't have the upright line at the rear - it will be more acceptable - but it will shake its arse for sure."
Renault will shorten the model renewal programme, with the entire Megane range renewed by the end of next year. The Scenic MPV will remain in its current form for a little longer.
At the Geneva Motor Show Renault unveiled the production version of its Koleos crossover.
