KEY POINTS:
The power company which disconnected electricity to Folole Muliaga's breathing assistance machine has written to its customers expressing remorse for the death of the Mangere woman.
The letter, from Carole Durbin, chairwoman of Mighty River Power which is the parent company of Mercury Energy, was received by more than 300,000 customers yesterday. A spokeswoman said the company wanted to communicate directly with its customers.
In the letter, Durbin tells customers what steps are being taken to follow up on issues highlighted by the death of Folole Muliaga.
"First let me say how much I and everyone at Mercury Energy and Mighty River Power deeply regret what occurred. We are determined to learn from this experience for the benefit of all our customers and in particular those in vulnerable situations."
Durbin writes that the company has introduced steps to help identify customers at risk of disconnection because of financial problems, and asks that people contact the company.
She refers customers to a dedicated phoneline or the company website for information for people who depend on electrical medical equipment.
