Rejuvenated villa comes with a giant bag of extras

The Ponsonby villa's new owners will benefit from the extensive makeover and refit.

The buyers of a 114-year-old Ponsonby villa will also get a new car, free power for a year, a home theatre system, whiteware and no interest on the first $500,000 of mortgage borrowing.

The two-storey weatherboard at 45 Lincoln St received a high-profile makeover in less than two months with at least nine businesses joining the project to demonstrate how to modernise a house while cutting energy costs and showcasing their products.

Renovations on the 187sq m, four-bedroom home finished last week and it is now on the market with the first lot of open homes held during the weekend. An auction is scheduled for Sunday, May 18.

Owner Krista Strong, who bought the property for $620,000 in 2002, has moved to Waitoki, about 40km north of central Auckland, and wanted to turn the cold and draughty home into a more liveable property in the hope it would result in a $2 million-plus sale.

The house has two bathrooms, double garaging and sits on a 306sq m section.

The property received new insulation, carpet, ventilation, water filtration and heat pumps, a new kitchen and bathrooms, was completely painted and landscaped with new fences and a new driveway.

Toyota is giving the new owner a new Prius car, valued at $31,280, and LG will donate two televisions, a theatre system, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave, front-loading washing machine and drier.

The house has a 2011 council valuation of $980,000 before any renovations so is expected to fetch least double that.
