Region helps raise $150k for Life Flight

BIG HELP: Life Flight says sponsor Westpac and the public keep it in the air.

Wairarapa, Wellington and Marlborough raised over $150,000 in this year's Westpac Chopper Appeal, run annually in May.

Nationally, the Westpac Chopper Appeal raised $1.3 million.

All donations from the Westpac Chopper Appeal are distributed to the 16 rescue chopper services throughout the country, with the money collected in each region going back to the local trust.

Westpac director of corporate affairs Sue Foley said the total raised was a fantastic effort.

"New Zealanders have again shown amazing support for their local rescue helicopters," said Ms Foley.

"Their generosity continues to ensure these vital emergency services can stay in the air and carry out life-saving rescue missions every day."

Life Flight chief executive David Irving said: "All of us here at the Life Flight base are humbled to have such wonderful support from the community.

"We send our sincere thanks to our sponsor Westpac and everyone who contributes to help save lives.

"Whenever you see us flying overhead, or read about our rescues in the newspaper, please know that we are only able to be there to help because of you."
