A mural 25 years in the making was blessed and gifted to the city yesterday, after fresh contributions from local artists.
The mural on the corner of Ponsonby and Karangahape roads, begun in 1984 by Visual Artists Against Nuclear Arms, had become irreparably damaged.
Old panels featuring work by Nigel Brown, Pat Hanly and others were sold on Trade Me in February.
Eight new designs were blessed yesterday, and sit alongside replicas of eight old artworks.
Twenty-two artists from the anti-nuclear movement, including John Pule (pictured with daughter Helava), joined Judith Tizard and Mayor John Banks at the ceremony.
Refreshing the message of non-nuclear future
