Light reflected from a mirror has been blamed for igniting clothes at an Eketahuna home on Saturday.
Chris Dalton, fire communications shift supervisor, said smoke had been reported at the South Rd property about 8.30am on Saturday and the fire had been doused before volunteer firefighters from Eketahuna arrived at the scene.
"There was smoke reported in the house. They put the cause down to light reflecting off a mirror and setting fire to a garment in the bedroom. It was extinguished."
Mr Dalton said it was not an uncommon cause of fires and he knew of several similar instances before and during his firefighting career.
He said he had been called to the scene of a blaze involving an electric wheelchair that had been ignited by sunlight reflected in a mirror.
