Reefton's newest multi-millionaire has called NZ Lotteries today, but has yet to claim their $10.6 million lottery prize package.

Spokeswoman Kate Richards told NZPA the winner was in shock, and was taking a few days to get their heads around what has happened.

Ms Richards wouldn't specify if it was
a man or woman, saying the person wanted to "keep it very private".

The new millionaire was taking the weekend to figure out how they'd officially cash-in the millions, she said.

The winning ticket was sold at Gizmos on Broadway in Reefton and was the store's first major prize since becoming a Lotto retailer in May.

It is the second multi-million dollar Lotto win in two years for the small West Coast town of Reefton, 79km north east of Greymouth, with a population of about 1000.

The town's last big Lotto winner, Harry Wilson, 73, won $6.1 million two years ago.

He said he told one person about his win and within about 10 minutes the whole town knew.
