Red Star, Greytown and Rathkeale Cricket Academy all completed outright wins when matches in the Wairarapa Cricket Association';s Bidwell Cup two-day competition continued on Saturday.
After leading Rathkeale College by 89 runs on the first innings Red Star declared their second innings closed at 190-4.
Wairarapa reps Daniel Stoneley and Joe Hull were both in good touch, Stoneley making 65 and Hull 68, and Jared Watt chimed in with a typically aggressive 31 not out later in the innings.
Left 280 to get in 60 overs for maximum points Rathkeale College were all out for 140.
They got off to a good start when Alex Morrison (37) and Matt Stringfellow (32) put on 65 for the first wicket but it was all downhill once that partnership was broken. Dean van Deventer (24) and Harry Greenwood (22) were the only other batsmen to get amongst the runs.
Bowling for Red Star medium pacer Carwyn Caffell led the way with his 4-20 off 16 overs and was given good support by Watt (2-36) and Shey O'Gorman (2-20).
GREYTOWN V WAICOLL
An inspired spell of bowling by Brian "BJ" James took Greytown to an eight-wicket victory over Wairarapa College.
James took 5-11 from just five overs as Wairarapa College slumped to be all out for 107 in their second innings. Other wickettakers were Seth Rance (2-45), Hayden Spierling (2-15) and Ewan Burt (1-19).
Greytown, which had led by 66 runs in the first innings thanks in the main to half-centuries by Rance and Wal Tatham, were therefore set 42 runs for the outright win and got there for the loss of two wickets, opener Duncan Didsbury being 21 not out.
ACADEMY V LANSDOWNE
Rathkeale Cricket Academy only had a small run chase too in their second innings to complete an outright success over Lansdowne in their match played at the Queen Elizabeth Park oval.
Resuming their first innings at 198-5 Academy were all out for 244 in reply to Lansdowne's 127.
Chad Yates made 88 while bowling for Lansdowne Mark Scully finished with the excellent figures of 6-72.
Lansdowne's second innings saw them dismissed for 141 with Brock Price making 54 and Steve Coleman shining with the ball for Academy, taking 6-18.
That left Academy with 24 runs to get for the outright win and they lost the one wicket in the process.
