The Red Cross has still nearly $10 million left in its kitty to give to people displaced by September's Canterbury earthquake.
Since January 22, the Red Cross-administered earthquake relief fund has given relocation grants of up to $2750 to 64 people forced to leave their homes, while 62 struggling businesses received $122,000, the Press reported.
Out the almost $22 million donated more than $12m has been spent on the now-discontinued emergency and hardship grants and the remaining amount would be spent on supporting quake-displaced people and struggling business owners, national programme manager David Neal said.
The Red Cross submitted a review of the relief fund's management to the three quake-affected councils yesterday.
The Government was expected to announce a support package tomorrow for those displaced by the quake.
According to government estimates 3000 people were likely to run out of insurance cover for temporary housing before being able to return to their quake-damaged homes.
Christchurch was hit by a 7.1 magnitude earthquake on September 4 causing billions of dollars of damage.
