New Zealand Red Cross aid worker Marianne Whittington has been awarded the Florence Nightingale medal by the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Ms Whittington, a nurse, has been on 11 aid missions over the past 17 years, in countries such as Thailand, Kenya, Afghanistan, Sudan and Angola.
