John Key has been out in the sunshine meeting and greeting the gay community.
The Prime Minister was running late at the Big Gay Out, but when he did turn up thousands flocked to see him.
Mr Key told the crowd National under his leadership had a strong record of standing up for gay rights.
A large contingent of Labour MPs were also in attendance.
Organisers say record crowds are at Coyle Park for the event, which runs until 7pm.
