The final round of Riverside Cup at Riversdale Beach golf Club last Friday was truly tropical,
the palms were still and
the course immaculate,
although the bunker on the right of the 4th needs to be repatriated to the foreshore.
Martinborough in third spot
were confident of a few wins against top of the table Eketahuna, however they were just too sharp for us, despite good wins from Roselee Thurston and Margaret Norrish.
Great support from the Ladies Committee who traveled out for the prize giving and congratulations to Eketahuna, Masterton in second spot and Martinborough retained third.
Thanks too to Riversdale for their warm hospitality.
Frost was a challenge on Monday for the final day of Lansdowne Trophy at Te Marua with ice gathering on the ball while putting.
The Combined Wairarapa
team were up against a very determined Manor Park, who were one and a half points behind the Coasters going into this final round.
The foursomes in the morning gave them a little cause for concern with games close for the first 15 holes.
Lyn Andrews and Lisa
Marie Ireland winning theirs
3/1.
Unfortunately they were just too good for us in the singles with our only win from Kris Chamberlain in the afternoon.
Taking the other five points gave Manor Park a one point win over the Coasters - Otaki, Paraparaumu and Miramar combined.
The fine weather brought them all out last Thursday,
and it is pleasing to note
that the Thursday Club had a record attendance of over 50 players for a non-tournament occasion.
Oddly, though, it must be noted that cloudless, windless days don't necessarily bring about bogey-less days.
A discreet veil shall be drawn over the average stableford score, although, in all fairness to those who did do well, what happens on the field can't altogether be kept on the field.
In fact, it is a pleasure to report that the Player of the Day was shared by two players, Garth Edwards and Ash Reed.
Their 42-stableford points put them a comfortable two ahead of the next player, Doug Clark.
Out of the fifty -odd players, those three were the only golfers to break the 40-stableford mark.
Hamish Donald, Lance Phelps and Andy Morison had to be content with 39 points.
Five players brandishing
38 points, squeezed into the
prize money: Graham MacFarlane, Lisa Marie Ireland, Stuart Taplin, Terry Blacktop and Darren O'Dwyer.
Terry also scored Nearest the Pin, but his sight let him down trying to convert it into a two.
That was left to Stuart McLeod, Brian Tucker, Bill Jones and Brad Nicholson.
Perhaps the up-coming tournament will be incentive enough to cause a rapid improvement in the scores.
Failing that, a rainy, windy day perhaps?
The ladies too have been enjoying sunny skies on a Wednesday for a change.
The programme has undergone major surgery and now its full on with all those important Medal, shootout and Par MSB rounds to see who is going to take home the silverware at the end of the year. There are three lovely silver trays at least on offer, although looking at them they could do with some polish.
Captain Jenny Wilkie is setting a fine example, practicing and playing well ahead of her charges this week with a Nett 74.
Lisa Marie Ireland warming up missed a couple of fairways but was happy with Nett 75.
Robyn Blackett handling the greens very well finished with Nett76 and took out the putting with only 30 putts.
Dinee Cresswell also finishing on Nett76 to scoop the last of the haggle offerings!
The nine hole ladies played a Four Ball Best Ball Comp with
the front Nine being won by Maureen Thurlow and Sandra Burgess, while the back nine was won by Jenny Tucker and Sherryl Howie.
The All Teed Up Nearest the Pin on number 8 was won by Carol Parkinson; she left getting a two to Honor Clark.
Jenny Tucker named Player of the Day after picking up
her two from the Property
Brokers Nearest the Pin on number 16.
Plenty of players on the weekend with Peter Bain having a great day finishing with a +6 in Saturdays Par round.
Garry Paterson and Ian Stewart getting in some practice before heading south +5, one shot ahead of the handicapper Ian Henderson +4.
Twos to Roger Parkinson, Lyall Callaghan and Garry Paterson.
On Sunday it was Postman Derek Stephens with +4
the leader in the Clubhouse
ahead of Doug Clark and the handicapper again with +3. Graham Jacobson and Reuben Crook getting their names in print with +1.
Twos to Lyall Callaghan, Bill Crook, Doug Clark and Phil Eberlein.
And this Sunday it's the lefties and Righties 36 Hole Open Tournament- Good luck to you all.
