Recession 'hurt families'

The recession put "real pressure" on many families during the year to June and the number of people on the unemployment benefit increased by nearly a quarter, the Ministry of Social Development says in its annual report released yesterday.

It said there was a 13 per cent increase in care and protection notifications to Child, Youth and Family.
