A real estate agent has today admitted stealing thousands of dollars from a kids' ice hockey club.
Karen Van Der Werf, 45, was working as a clerk for the Canterbury Minor Ice Hockey Association when she stole club funds over a six-year period.
The Christchurch woman appeared in the dock at Christchurch District Court today to plead guilty to four charges - two of theft by a person in a special relationship, and two of theft as a servant, dating between January 2001 and November 2006. Fourteen other charges were withdrawn by the crown.
The non-profit Canterbury Minors Ice Hockey (CMIH) is the governing body for all officially sanctioned junior ice hockey in Canterbury for boys and girls aged between 5 and 17.
Her defence counsel Tom Stevens said that while she admitted the crimes, the amount was still in dispute and asked for the summary of facts not to be read out in court.
