Team Wairarapa is aiming to make a big hit at the regional track and field meet to be held in Napier this weekend.
A contingent of 21 will represent Wairarapa in a wide range of events and Masterton-based coach Mark Harris expects them to "shake up" their opposition from centres such as Taranaki, Wanganui, Hawke's Bay, Manawatu and Wellington despite the difficulties being caused by the recent wet weather here.
"We've had to do a lot of training indoors because of the grass surfaces being too slippery and that means we are probably a little behind the ball game fitness-wise," he said. "But we do have a lot of raw talent and hopefully that will count in our favour.".
Meanwhile, Athletics Masterton drew a big attendance at their club night on Monday with over 100 youngsters being given the chance to strut their stuff in such diverse events as long jump, shot put and sprints.
