The disruption to the traffic from and to the harbour bridge would be disastrous. Currently the smallest accident has widespread repercussions during peak traffic.
The suggestion that half the 160,000 cars a day could transfer to buses is interesting. At 50 people a bus, that equates to 1600 bus loads. If each bus does four peak time trips a day we need 400 extra buses. Any one with a spare 400 buses? - Neil Binnie, Torbay.

I am totally opposed to the running of the V8 Supercars in Downtown Auckland and cannot believe our councillors are forcing us into this. Having visited Surfers Paradise several times during the September/October period, I have witnessed the disruption to the city that the Indy causes.
Is Auckland's traffic not bad enough? How about a Holmes poll to see what Aucklanders really think. - Meredith Leach, Remuera.

Why don't they shift the V8 car racing to the bottom of Parnell and race around the old shunting yards? Is it because the eastern suburbs residents who will have their travel plans disrupted have access to the Auckland City ballot box, when North Shore residents don't? - Ruth Ell, Takapuna.

If Banks and his buddies really want to hold this race at the current venue, why not make it from 9pm to 6am?
There would be no disruption to the normal working day, more people could come and watch and late licences would ensure a festive atmosphere.
The local residents? Oh dear, they would be Auckland city voters, wouldn't they. There's a conundrum. - Hugh and Raewyn, Castor Bay.

I feel it is the most disruptive single thing I have ever heard put upon us.
Mayor Banks then had the nerve to say that complainers were whingers and whiners who didn't vote for him anyway and didn't count. He is wrong. I voted for Mr Banks, but that arrogant speech has ensured I will never again vote for him or any other councillor who was in favour of the event. - Bob Farrell, Ellerslie.

I agree entirely with Brian Rudman's comments about the chaos that will result. We need a dedicated purpose-built motorsports venue, so how about building this at Whenuapai? Lots of space for a state-of-the-art track for everyone from the V8s, to the boy racers, to Banksie's Ferrari. - Richard Fox, St Heliers.

Holding the V8 supercars in Auckland is like holding a cruise ship convention on the Titanic. With all our traffic problems the last thing we need is more cars. Grant Cotty, Remuera.
