Readers in Carterton are being encouraged to get out of their comfort zone and fall in love with a new author.
The library's "Blind Date with a Book" promotion, which was timed to coincide with Valentine's Day, allows readers to borrow a book without seeing the cover.
So far the idea has proved a success, with about 30 of the wrapped books checked out in a week.
Carterton district librarian Anne Hughes said she hoped the promotion, which runs for the rest of the month, would encourage readers to try out new genres and authors, rather than selecting a book by its cover.
"This is a way to fall in love with another author or type of book that you wouldn't normally know about ... it's just a way for people to read something that they wouldn't normally choose."
