Winter is arguably the best time of year to devote to reading and the kids of Masterton have really taken that on board with the sponsored Winter Warmers Reading Programme organised by Masterton Library.
The reading programme, which is free, runs for six weeks and involves the children reading books for sheer enjoyment then "report in" to the library for one-on-one sessions with a librarian.
The children get a sticker for each time they complete a review on what they have read and, at the end of the programme, which started in Masterton last Tuesday, there is a grand finale where they are presented with a certificate and a book to keep.
The programme at Masterton Library was sponsored by Eastern and Central Community Trust, and it was one of 23 libraries to be sponsored by the trust.
