Rathkeale College year nine and 10 cricket team are progressing well in their bid to make the finals of the national secondary schools junior cricket competition.
Having previously beaten Wairarapa College, they continued on their winning way with a 42-run victory over their Palmerston North Boys High counterparts last week.
Electing to bat first, Rathkeale's innings was built around a 158-partnership between Harrison Greenwood and captain Jamie Holmes.
Harrison completed his maiden century and went on to make 121 while Holmes was out for a well-made 67. Ben Foster's 21 was also a valuable knock and at the end of their 40 overs, Rathkeale's total stood at an imposing 263-7.
PNBHS started well in their run chase and at the halfway stage were 128-4. However, a brilliant run out by Matt Stringfellow was the start of wickets falling on a regular basis and they were 42 runs shy of their target when the last of them fell
All of the Rathkeale bowlers did their bit with Holmes completing a good double by taking three wickets and Josh Smith and Sam Davies two apiece. Rathkeale's next game is against a powerful Napier Boys High side with the winner there going onto contest the national finals in Taupo, beginning on March 26.
