Rathkeale College and Lansdowne scored outright wins in Bidwell Cup senior men's inter-club cricket matches in Wairarapa over the weekend.
Batting first against Red Star, Rathkeale College scored a healthy 248 in heir first innings, thanks in the main to handy knocks from Doug Bracewell (72), Simon Clinton-Baker (64) and Andy Oldfield (45).
Bowling for Red Star Nick Moorcock took 5-65 and Carwyn Caffell 3-68.
Red Star reached just 158 in their first innings with Camus Wyatt (39), Corey Burling (34) and Jared Watt (31 not out) providing most of their runs.
Dean van Deventer (3-16), Clinton-Baker (2-28) and Andy Dodd (2-60) led the Rathkeale attack.
Rathkeale then elected to bat a second time rather than enforce the follow on and declared their innings closed at 89-8 of which Dodd made 20 and van Deventer 31 not out.
Peter Sigvertsen was rewarded for some accurate bowling for Red Star by taking 5-45.
Red Star was therefore set 210 in 43 overs for the outright win and were all out in the penultimate over for 134, giving Rathkeale victory by 75 runs.
Daniel Stonely top scored with 38 and McEwan made 34. Bowling for Rathkeale Bracewell took 3-27, Clinton-Baker 3-26 and Dodd 2-48. Lansdowne made a one-horse race of their match with Academy.
With Henry Cameron belting 140 and Sam Curtis 83 Lansdowne declared their first innings closed at 272-3 after they had earlier dismissed Academy for 138.
Academy struggled even more for runs in their second innings, being all out for 90, 44 runs short of making Lansdowne bat again. Robin James (3-7) and Choi Jackson (2-38) spearheaded the attack for Lansdowne. The match between Wairarapa College and Greytown was drawn with Wairarapa College taking first innings points.
