IT'S said success breeds success and the Rathkeale College first XI boys hockey team is having plenty of that this season.
From nine matches they have the excellent record of eight wins and one draw.
With all but two of last year's team available again in 2005 combinations were well set before the season commenced and this has been a major factor in their strong start.
They opened their league programme with a 2-1 win over Wellington College and have gone to beat HIBS, Wairarapa College. Hutt Valley High and Rongotai.
Games against Kuranui and Tawa were postponed because of illness and still have to be played.
As part of their inter-school programme the Rathkeale College team have played against both Christ's College and Wanganui Collegiate.
The commanding 9-2 win over Christs was achieved with an outstanding team effort with Rathkeale retaining possession for long periods of the game
And there was a similarly impressive display against Wanganui Collegiate with Rathkeale winning that game by 6-0.
The scoring potential in the Rathkeale side is evidenced by their having scored 48 goals while conceding just nine Forwards Cole Aplin and Robin Smith are the leading scorers at present with 13 and 12 respectively.
Rathkeale captain Wills Pendergast has already been selected in the Central Districts under-21 side and seven other Rathkeale players have made either the Wairarapa under-18 or under-15 teams.
