Rathkeale athletic sports were held on Friday of last week at St Matthews college. It was a great day, which was enjoyed by all and mostly ran smoothly.
The results were as follows; cup winners were Richard French with The Watkins Cup for the under 16 sprint champion, Duncan Watts with The Williams Cup for the senior sprint champion and the Keil cup for 400m, Robin Smith was the winner of The Welsh Cup for the senior 800m The Hirschberg Family Cup for long distance and also The Frizzell Challenge Cup for 3000m, Jessie Baillie won The Sundstrom Cup for field events.
The champions and runners up for each competing year levels were as follows; Under14 runners up were Patrick Jeffery and Nick Loader, the champion was Chris Girling-McLean. Junior championship was tied three ways between Isaac Vollebregt, Hamish Hammond and Sam Vollebregt. Intermediate runner up was Tom Vollebregt, the champion was Hugo Porter. The senior championship was also tied three ways between Robin Smith, Duncan Watts and Jessie Baillie.
The house placings for standards were third Cranleigh on 550, second Repton on 565 and first Rugby on 618. therefore Rugby were the winners of The inter-house standards cup- The E J Norman Cup. House placings overall third was Repton on 1166 points, second was Cranleigh on 1210 points and first was Rugby on 1247 points making them the winners of the inter-house cup ?The W H P Knight Cup.
