The Rodney District Council Commission yesterday confirmed that rates will rise this year by an average 7 per cent for rural areas and 4.5 per cent for the Hibiscus Coast.
Commissioner Grant Kirby said the annual plan process brought out some well-based submissions for additional works. These had been adopted without adding to the rates rise by adjusting works priorities.
Submissions had raised concern about the imbalance of rates between rural areas and the Hibiscus Coast.
Mr Kirby promised a review of council policy that stated funds taken in one area must be used within that area.
