The Antarctic blast could bring snow showers to Auckland with snow expected to fall on tops of mountain ranges.
WeatherWatch.co.nz is forecasting snow showers down to 200 metres, 100 metres lower than when it snowed in July, which is a rare forecast for the city of sails.
This would see snow falling and possibly settling on the tops of the Waitakere and Hunua ranges and right across the Coromandel Peninsula.
At a height of 186m, State Highway 1 over the Bombay Hills shouldn't be affected, however the chance of snow flakes falling during showers could still occur.
A heavy fall of hail is expected across the city and will be a danger for Auckland motorists, along with winds gusting at over 100km/h.
WeatherWatch.co.nz anticipates that the hail fall will pick up on Monday afternoon and overnight with the possibility of sleet at sea level in isolated pockets.
The city could reach temperatures as low as 10 degrees Celsius on Monday and possibly drop to 9 on Tuesday.
