Rare stamps worth about $80,000 were stolen during an exhibition at Lower Hutt during the weekend.
The stamps were in a folder and went missing from the exhibition at the Lower Hutt Horticultural Hall on Saturday.
Detective Constable Mike Philpott said today a number of stamp dealers were exhibiting at the fair and the missing folder contained several hundred New Zealand stamps.
"The retail value of the stamps is in the vicinity of $80,000, some of these stamps are quite rare and it would be hard for someone to sell them," Mr Philpott said.
"The owner would understandably just like them returned. If anyone does have information please call, or return the folder, to Lower Hutt Police."
