A Rotorua man has been convicted of raping a 13-year-old girl by forcing her to inhale fly spray to subdue her.
Robin Whitiora Chadwick, 57, was found guilty by a jury in the High Court at Rotorua this week of sexual violation of the girl at a Rotorua house in September 2009, The Rotorua Daily Post reported.
He pressured the victim to inhale fly spray before forcing her on to a couch and raping.
The court was told that inhaling solvents that contain butane or propane, such as fly spray and spray paint, can cause a short-term intoxicating effect.
Justice John Priestley remanded Chadwick in custody for sentencing on August 3.
