KEY POINTS:
Two naval ratings are accused of raping a colleague at Devonport Naval Base after a Sunday afternoon drinking session.
The men, aged 20 and 23, cannot be named for legal reasons.
They deny charges of rape and sexual violation last November 25 but were sent to the High Court for trial after a depositions hearing at Auckland's North Shore District Court last week.
The maximum penalty for each charge is 20 years in prison.
In written evidence, the complainant, who was 18 at the time, said she caught a ferry to Auckland's Santa Parade before meeting a friend for drinks at the Viaduct.
She returned to Devonport at 2pm and bought a bottle of wine from a supermarket before meeting three friends and the defendants.
They drank in a nearby reserve before walking up Mt Victoria, one of Devonport's two volcanic cones, and visiting several local bars.
After the group broke up, the woman ended up in a room at the Navy base with the defendants.
Court documents said she remembered regaining consciousness to find the men having sex with her. Police alleged they continued, despite her shouting at them to stop.
She confided in friends, one via text message, that her "drink got spiked". She told another friend the "two guys" wouldn't stop.
One of the group at the reserve said he recalled the complainant and one defendant were "playful" and "appeared to be flirting".
A rating, who wasn't with the group, told the court he met one defendant outside the room where the alleged rape took place and was asked if he wanted to watch.
Defence lawyer Michael Levett asked the witness if it appeared the defendant had anything to hide?
The witness replied: "No".
No date has been set for the ratings' trial.
