Driving on SH27 at night so many cars and trucks have fog lights on. Some are so bright drivers might as well have not bothered to dip their headlights. When are the police going to ticket offenders?

I absolutely agree with your correspondent today. Having to walk into Middlemore Hospital's main entrance is like walking through a smoker's den. Auckland City Hospital is not much better. Likewise outside lots of cafes - every time someone opens a door, the smoke wafts in.

There is an added reason to visit the Auckland Regional Botanic Gardens in Manurewa - to see the art exhibition put on by Rosehill School. It is on display in the old cafeteria area. It's a gorgeous, colourful, imaginative display, showing a wonderful sense of colour and at times a touch of humour. It's a surprise to find that most of the exhibits are made of recycled materials, artfully assembled and decorated. I hope many more people get to see this lovely exhibition.

I dropped an expensive cap, unnoticed, as we left the Wellington City Hospital carpark. When we stopped at the second traffic lights, the cap was suddenly pushed through the window. There was no time to see him (or her) but thanks to the good person in the following car.

Almost every day over the last month the sound of birdsong has been taken over by the hideous sound of chainsaws. Like many areas, a number of properties have recently been sold in the area in which I live. This area is close to a small beach and most people have bush and trees on or around their properties. Within days of moving in, the new owners are out with the chainsaws, sawing and chopping every tree or bush on their properties, even a very old pohutukawa. Why do people who hate bush and trees buy in these areas?

Congratulations to the six Pukekohe residents who got together and cleaned their local walkway. The walkway between Girdhar Place and Wellington St had become unsightly and an approach to the council did not bring any response. So the residents got together and trimmed the overhanging growth and swept up the leaves. The walkway is now a pleasure to walk along.
