Thousands of people lined Ponsonby Road tonight for the third and largest Auckland Pride Parade.
The parade is seen as the high point of the Auckland Pride Festival and was the first year police staff were given permission to march in uniform.
This year's parade theme was Gods & Monsters and featured 58 floats led by the Dykes on Bikes.

We got to the Pride Parade early to secure a front-row view. Then a totally obnoxious person shoved an elderly gentleman out beside us and crowed to her friends, "See, I told you I'd get into the front row." She continued to harass the poor gentleman and finally weand another group had to leave our spots. Shame on you.

I recently returned home after spending one week in Ward 67 at Auckland City Hospital. The attention I received from doctors, nurses and ward staff was exceptional. How fortunate we are to have access to such a wonderful facility.
To the wonderfully cheery counter lady at BP Newmarket who very kindly reissued me with a new car-wash voucher after I realised my existing one was one day past its use-by date: great work.

Auckland City is replacing the old asphalt pathway at Michaels Ave Reserve with a concrete one. Don't they know that concrete is very jarring on the legs of joggers, especially older ones?

As frustrating as it may be to look at dead trees, my praise goes to the organisers and volunteers at Tuff Crater in Northcote, who have transformed this area from a weed-infested area in 2000 to the developing native forest it is today. Forest and Bird have put in hundreds of hours of work, weeding and planting, and raised much money for this volunteer project. Let us get out and join them - good things can take some time.
