Very annoying on Thursday last week to see a council employee driving a shiny white Toyota down the bus lane at 4.20pm at the Newton Rd end of Symonds St while the rest of us minions sat in the outer queue in unusually hot sun. Who issues the infringement notice to him?

I recently complained about state of the streets in Manurewa. All of a sudden the little litter picker-uppers on their motorcycles are back picking up after the litter louts. Well done to the council - what a difference this service makes to our streets.
On Friday afternoon at the tidy family park/pond near Vector Arena, in which we locals and park employees take pride, two women were aiding two little boys to break up a phoenix palm frond and strip off the dried leaves. I asked them to clean up and a guy chimed in that it didn't need to be cleaned up. The previous afternoon the same boys were spoken to about "faux kicking" the resident mother duck and five ducklings. The same women watched on and did nothing. Oh well, now it's the teacher's responsibility again to discipline those kids!
A huge thank you to the unsung heroes - the linesmen who brave wind, rain and pitch black nights to restore power after a failure. Well done guys, especially as it was two consecutive nights.

While I understand that the SH16 upgrade will take some time and the approach roads are to be improved also, why on earth do we have the Te Atatu Rd upgrade started, then Edmonton Rd, and lo! something started on Lincoln Rd, so all the motorway approaches from the Glendene and Henderson area are dug up at once? Surely the works could be staggered so I can vary my route accordingly?

If anyone thinks the world is going to hell in a handbasket, just check in to Ward 77 at Auckland Hospital for a week's care. My nursing team looked after me with unfailing generosity, kindness, patience and good humour while performing the yuckiest tasks. Sack the UN General Assembly and stick these guys in - they communicate effortlessly, work hard and ooze compassion. It was like dropping in to an International Angel Conference.
