You've had a couple of emails from retail staff ranting about the rudeness of customers they serve. I found these a bit laughable. I can think of a few places in Auckland where the person behind the counter was nice, but not many. Often the nice ones are foreigners.

Good on Sky TV for showing the surfing on channel 56. It is amazing to be able to watch the heats blow-by-blow as both the men's and women's ASP tour professionals progress through the year's events. Roll on summer and some good waves.
Residing in the country, I occasionally walk the length of our road picking up rubbish. I know we live in a throw-away society but could people not wait until they can throw their rubbish into a bin and not out the window?
On Saturday night at Christmas in the Park, my 80-year-old partner and I, 75, decided just as the show was starting that we would have to leave as we had been there two hours and were wet through as a result of the rain. We'd walked only a few metres, struggling with our chilly bin and seats, when a lovely young man offered to carry our chilly bin for us. We were parked a long way from the Domain but he insisted on carrying it the whole distance even though it meant missing some of the concert with his family. Thank you Anthony, you were unbelievable.

The Intercity terminus at SkyCity is a dreary, unwelcoming mess. There are a few uncomfortably sloping benches inside, made of some sweaty plastic material, but none outside so that anyone waiting has to stand or sit on their luggage. What an awful introduction to Auckland. Surely it could be made less Eastern Europe, 1950s style.

A couple of weeks back I went to my local shops and parked over a kerbside drain. To my horror, my keys slipped out of my hand and into the drain. A young man came over to help. After many attempts - lying on the road and then plunging his arm into dirty water - a passer-by said to use kitchen tongs, which we purchased from the $2 shop. We retrieved my keys but not before the young man had plunged his arm in again.
