The public are being encouraged to support the Fifa U-20 World Cup, so I went to the fan zone on Queen's Wharf to watch the Brazil versus Nigeria game being played in New Plymouth. To my utter dismay there were no big screens showing this game, or any gamesin fact. It is utterly embarrassing that such a massive sports event is being held in our country, but the public cannot watch it with other soccer fans and enjoy an atmosphere akin to that experienced during the Cricket World Cup when fans gathered to cheer on the Black Caps.

On May 27, I placed an online, non-urgent application to renew my passport, which had expired in January. I received email notification the next day that it had been processed and was in the mail. It arrived on May 29. Great service. Now all I need is an overseas trip to go on.
To the red-light runner on the corner of Great South Rd and Hill Rd, Manurewa, on Thursday morning: You were 1m away from wiping out this elderly nana of nine. I thank God for my good brakes.
Five weeks ago I had a total knee replacement at the North Shore Elective Surgery Centre. I would like to thank all staff in Cullen Ward, the surgeon and his team, for taking awesome care of me during my stay, including the delicious meals that were served. Fantastic facility, great concept. The thanks also goes to others, e.g. front desk, recovery ward staff: wonderful service.

Agents who leave their signs up for weeks after selling a house. Self-promotion on public land? It's visual pollution. Take them down after a reasonable period of time, preferably within five days, or locals should help you do it.

On Saturday, my family and I went to the fabulous Friend of the Farmer restaurant at Kings Nursery in Airfield Rd, Takanini. I was feeling unwell and a staff member, who was also a nurse, called for an ambulance and administered first-aid to me until the paramedics arrived. The owner was also amazing, with a ready supply of towels and whatever was needed. A big thumbs-up to them as nobody would want that in their restaurant at lunchtime on a holiday weekend. Thank you, Friend of the Farmer.
