It seems to be the norm now for a job application to go in by email, and then never be heard of again. It can't be hard to set up an automatic acknowledgment. Then the applicant at least knows their carefully crafted CV and covering letter, sent out with so much hope and anticipation, hasn't disappeared into a cybernetic black hole.

I am raving about the two "value-adds" NZ Post has developed - YouShop post boxes for online purchases that don't deliver to NZ and, most recently, for no added cost, I get a message to tell me when there is mail in my post office box. That saves me many wasted trips to empty boxes or leaving mail too long. Thank you, NZ Post!

Looped packaging strips have become the scourge that the old plastic six-pack holders were in the '90s. I was going for a run in Hillcrest last night and was snagged on one. It caused me to fall with full force on to the footpath, suffering painful, deep grazes on my hands, elbow and leg. Because they are not always cut when removed from the package, they become death traps when left lying around the streets.

What a pleasant surprise while travelling on a Ritchies bus from North Shore to Britomart; the bus driver got up, voluntarily, despite being busy, to help me with my case. At the end of the journey he smiled at everyone, wishing them a good day; the whole mood lifted. Without being asked, he came and helped me with my case again. I asked his name. Shafie, he said, from Cape Town, South Africa. Thank you, Shafie - I hope Ritchies realise what an attribute they have in you.

Online shopping. Why don't web designers put the country field first when requesting address details? This will mean any mandatory or country-specific address requirements can be managed accordingly, rather than writing the address then having the mandatory fields change only when the last field -- country -- is entered.

A great rave for Vector Arena parking. Not only did the attendants hand us our tickets on arrival but they were still there at 10.30pm to help operate the barrier arms as we left. It completed a great day after a three-hour trip to see Burt Bacharach on Saturday.
