For two years we have endured noisy roadworks at all hours, 6 days a week, and completion isn't due until late 2016. This morning the noise started at 5.40am when a 32-wheel truck thundered by and then parked outside my bedroom window. It beggars belief that residents haven't been offered any form of compensation or financial assistance for noise insulation. We're just supposed to put up with frayed nerves and no sleep for four years.

I'd like to thank drivers who don't park over the green cycle advance boxes at traffic lights. It makes my day when I cycle to the front of the queue and find these safe havens empty. If Auckland Transport could keep these maintained and also educate drivers on their use I would be even happier.
Was having a lovely catch-up with friends, food and drink at a cafe in Meadowbank on Sunday. As we arrived towards the end of our meal we were asked if we wanted to order anything else. We said no thank you. The reply to that was, well, if you are not spending, could we have the table. There is a better way of saying shove off, I think. Definitely won't go back.
Hats off to volunteers at Eden Park for the Cricket World Cup. They were very co-operative with patrons given directions and helped to find seats. Volunteers were standing in scorching heat, supplying sunblock to patrons. A big thanks to the young gals who were happily going around the stadium supplying cold water to patrons . It's fantastic service like this that keeps cricket crazy patrons like me and my mates going to the games. Also, it was good to see a multi-ethnic police force doing a great job maintaining law and order.
Hats off to the crowd and security personnel. Thoroughly enjoyed the game.

Why oh why is it not possible for Auckland town planners to arrange to synchronise traffic lights on main thoroughfares? Seems like I stop at every infuriating traffic light. Once in a blue moon I will get two green lights in a row, but such an occurrence seems rarer than Haley's Comet.

It was just the second time I had been to Kawerau. A lot of people never go there. I entered one of the two cafes - the Bakehouse - and had coffee and cake. Was so impressed I returned for lunch of the most generous, hugely filled roll ever for a most reasonable price. So well done that cafe! But I want to give a rave for the blonde waitress for doing an outstanding job. Great friendliness, wonderful communication with customers, giving time for a brief chat and keeping the place tidy and clean whenever there was a break.
