Rants & Raves: Multi-tasking motorist

Witnessed last Wednesday morning in peak-hour traffic, 9am, at Bayfair roundabout, Mt Maunganui: A young motorist with a coffee in her left hand, iPad on her lap and hopefully the steering wheel in right hand. This was viewed from a bus travelling beside her. No wonder accidents occur.

Thank you to the person who handed in my cards at New World, Kumeu. I had just finished shopping with my mother and I think I may have dropped them when I was loading the car. A major relief when Mum retrieved them from the office. Thanks so much!

After taking months to get the sports grounds on Michaels Ave Reserve in Ellerslie ready for the public, why are contractors mowing the new grass on the new cricket grounds every day, so killing it in the long run? They have gone mad with the mowing, to the detriment of the grass.

Thank you to the lovely truck driver who stopped on Bairds Rd, Otara, so that I could stroll half way across to the other side of the road. My leg spasms were out of control. It was going to take some effort in wheeling myself up the sidewalk on to the footpath. This lovely driver did not drive on - he was waiting for me to get on to the footpath. I looked around for my support person, who was not in sight. This driver observed my difficulty and quickly jumped out of his truck, popped me on to the footpath and was on his way. Thank you.. And thank you to the traffic behind who waited patiently. I had a great time at the Spinal Cord Show Off Day!

To the totally arrogant Howick Club member who attempted to park on a double yellow line at the fireworks display on Saturday: Learn to leave earlier to get to an event to find parking!

I want to acknowledge the two wonderful men at the Hauraki Corner Hammer Hardware. On Friday, I went to try to find a long-handled scrubbing brush for cleaning bathroom and kitchen corners. There weren't any in the store. I explained I really needed one because my back issues prevent me from getting down on my knees. Within a blink of an eye these men came up with a solution and created a tool for me. Due to them, my corners are now looking pristine. Thanks, guys.
