A big thank-you to the promoters of the John Bishop show for scheduling another show, for which we have been able to get tickets. We missed out first time around, so are now happy chappies.

I have seen a lot of mention about students not giving up their seats on public transport for the elderly or pregnant. And yes, I agree, it is nice when a student is able to give up his or her seat for them. However, it seems people fail to realise that students, too, are paying patrons, so shouldn't they be able to sit on what they pay for? Students normally have schoolbags, laptops or sport gear to hold. How can you expect them to stand and safely hold on? In fairness, couldn't an able person in their 20s to 40s stand for
the elderly?

Over the past 12 months, I have travelled extensively from the city to Mt Eden to visit a sick relative. At times I was even carrying a heavy luggage trolley, but invariably whether outward or inward bound a student or two would immediately give up their seat as I boarded the bus. Assistance was usually offered and mostly with a smile. I totally admire their attitude and courtesy.

Perhaps the reason young people are reluctant to offer their seat to someone else on the bus is that more often than not the person declines the offer, leaving the young person feeling embarrassed. Please, if someone is kind enough to offer you their seat, accept graciously.

A big rave to the ladies at BB's Takanini. Recently, my granddaughter spilled her milkshake on their floor, making a huge mess. Not only did they clean it all up with no fuss or anger at us, but also gave my granddaughter a new milkshake free of charge. That kind of business needs to be acknowledged and rewarded.
