I hope the mothers of the boys who robbed a bunch of 11-year-old girls of their collections in the Herne Bay area on Halloween night are really proud of their sons! What cowardly and disgraceful behaviour.

We did an online renewal for a passport on Wednesday morning and it arrived by courier on Friday at 2:30pm.
I live in Pt England and am recovering from an operation with no driving for six weeks - a daunting prospect as I am an "all-year-round" swimmer at Kohi Beach. However, my time has been softened by enjoying the Tamaki River from my bedroom window while devouring a month's free trial of the Herald each morning with breakfast. A five-minute walk along the river's edge takes me past state homes looking much smarter with new fences and native landscaping, while enjoying the sounds of tuis and fantails in the many large trees and parks in the area. A 10-minute amble takes me to Pt England Reserve which has been transformed with a beautiful beach and upgraded toilet blocks and seating. I sit quietly, feeling refreshed and just a little smug, as I look at the multimillion-dollar houses on the opposite side of the river bank. For all the great improvements being done in this area - thank you!
With reference to Martin Bell's Rave about fireworks being the best time of the year.
If he visited emergency outlets as they treated injuries inflicted as a result of his "wonderful tradition", he may change his thoughts.

I have been reading the Herald for close to 65 years. Sometimes I am unable to get a printed copy but, thank you, I can also read it online. There are times when the reports make me furious, laugh or cry. But I must have my Herald fix.

TV announcers' bad diction and constantly using such words as, "cops" for police, "kids" for children, "of" for have. We are now being subjected to the overuse of the word "decade".
