People who walk on beaches and never pick up any rubbish scattered around them. Milford beach has regular walkers and they are quite happy to walk over the debris.

I recently spent time in Kirk's Bush, Papakura, and was delighted to hear a wonderful chorus of bird singing such as we used to get with the dawn chorus many long years ago. We have a great bunch of local volunteers who keep the bush clean, discourage vandals and generally make the place nice to be in.
We were at the Waiheke RSA and went to use the ATM. I withdrew $120 then went to get a drink and a young chap came up to me and gave me $20 I left in the machine. I asked what he drank and he declined, however, I won two meat packs that night and gave him one.

I am visiting from Canada and decided to borrow a friend's bike and go cycling around Waiheke with him. The chain was rusty so I asked the bike rental guy near the ferry dock if I could pay for a few drops of oil. He looked up from his paper at the bike, then me, said "no", then went back to his paper. Nice! Rave to the guy at the bike shop in Oneroa who gave me a can to take outside and lube up the bike for free. That's hospitality!

Last Sunday, I lost my valuable tennis bracelet. It was my 40th wedding anniversary present from my husband. After retracing our steps we found it at Kings Plant Barn, Orakei. I would like to thank the customer who handed it in.
Regarding a rant in Monday's paper: I do not know what number the person rang concerning a duckling but it was not Hibiscus Coast Bird Rescue in Whangaparaoa. I did not receive that call and certainly would not have responded in the manner described. Hibiscus Coast Bird Rescue accepts all birds - native and non-native.
