Rants & Raves: Continuing at stop signs

Rant

At the complicated intersection at the bottom of the hill coming into Ohope village from Whakatane there are two stop signs, which our holiday rental overlooked. We watched off and on for a week and 99 per cent of cars did NOT stop. Several accidents were only narrowly avoided. Traffic police should be on to this, not booking people for driving 4km over the speed limit. Some countries immediately take a licence away for such an offence.

On Saturday night while enjoying a drink at an upstairs bar in the Civic Theatre, Auckland, my friend's handbag accidently bumped her drink and it spilled. When a cloth was requested to wipe up the mess, not only did the bar waiter do it for her but did so courteously and with a smile. He then replaced her drink free of charge. Three cheers to the Civic Theatre and their fabulous bar staff for their excellent service.

The public viewing platforms at the end of Princes Wharf (at first-floor level) are a great asset to the city. They are open from 6am to 11.30pm and have seating and good views of the harbour. But why are there no signs on the wharf telling people about them? There is never anyone on them because no one knows they are there.

Excellent work from the organisers of the Myers Park centenary this past weekend. And to the workmen who managed to clean up the area and finish off the lighting and grounds, well done. And to the lovely couple entertaining the kids with a lolly scramble. What a nice and lovely part of the city this place will be for another 100 years.

To the window washer at the intersection of Great South Rd and Green Lane West who threatened to smash my windows because I didn't have any coins: go find a job, please.

We walked Waiheke Island's Sculpture Trail last Sunday and both the scenery and thesculptures were wonderful. What made the walk even more enjoyable were the friendly and knowledgeable volunteers we encountered along the way. Thank you for giving up your time.
