I see so many one-occupant cars with L plates - not sure if it's illegal, but it certainly dilutes the message, i.e. "I'm new to driving, please be considerate". If you have a learner driver using your car, please take the L plates off when your learner isn't driving. It only takes a moment.

Double the rave recipients here, the first is to the Herald for printing some hilarious Rants and Raves every day, but what makes them better is my co-workers who feel they deserve a special reading every day at noon. Vicki, Melanie and Jody turn what are everyday Kiwis venting steam or praising the work of others into a 30-minute comedy skit that keeps the entire lunch room in fits of laughter. Keep it up ladies, and should this have made it to print, thank you for bringing the free entertainment!
I can't tolerate television presenters/radio presenters calling each other nicknames on air, i.e. Sav, Streetee, Hosk, Rach. It's very unprofessional, especially on television. This is a personal, behind-the-scenes thing and should be kept there.
I teach literacy in the workplace and adult education books are so rare. Mark at Bookmark Books in Devonport is always helpful, hugely knowledgeable and resources unusual books and often keeps aside great finds for me. My teaching field of resources has expanded because of his support. Big thanks, Mark.

Rant
I find female bus drivers are more grumpy than male drivers. The woman who drove my usual bus to town yelled at me when I pushed the button by accident while trying to sit down. If she had waited until I sat down before driving, I wouldn't have needed to grab the handle quickly to stop myself flying forward. It was embarrassing.

Thank you to the wonderful staff and public who helped my dad Ken at the Britomart train station last Thursday when he had a fall on the escalator. And to the lady who helped him then had an epileptic fit. I hope she is well.
