Rants and Raves: Big rave to St John

A great big rave to St John for their attention to my lacerated hand last weekend in Auckland prior to the Warriors game.

A big thank you to Sabine, a dedicated volunteer from the Lonely Miaow cat rescue. She spent many a freezing evening waiting to trap the starving, abandoned cats who had formed a colony surrounding vacant houses and sections backing on to my property. As a cat lover myself I particularly appreciated her help, kindness and compassion.

I would like to warn all boy-racers who think they own the Auckland roads that your licence plates are clearly visible for us law-abiding citizens to note down for the "report a bad driver" column on the NZ Police website. So if you go through my street at 80km/h daily, just know the police will follow up on continued lawbreakers. Be warned.

A great big rave to St John for their attention to my lacerated hand last weekend in Auckland prior to the Warriors game. Not only did the women dress an ugly and bleeding wound, the skin edges were aligned so perfectly that eight days later I have a barely perceptible scar. You girls are magic; and a big thanks for finding me in the stand to do a follow-up check. You rock!

To Sky TV. I am a massive sports fan, especially tennis, and it is the reason I have been paying for your sports package. Wimbledon is now screened by TV One and it cuts off any recordings on MySky once the Breakfast show starts in the morning. I now watch half or a third of a game. After talking to the Sky salesperson on the phone, she basically told me they lost the rights to air it. What a lot of bollocks. I hope all tennis fans like me will discontinue their Sky subscription.

To Lindsay, the guard on the train going to Britomart about 9.45am on June 26 ... thank you for making the train wait while I ran down the ramp at the Remuera station to jump on board. It made my day and you were so nice about it. Lucky passengers travelling with you every day.

It annoys me that prisons are referred to as "corrections facilities". For goodness sake, a prison is a prison, so call it a prison. Also why do the media insist on calling a bridge an "overbridge"? All bridges go over something, that's why they are called bridges, they bridge things. The other kind of bridge is a card game.
