Rams show real class at event

The Rams JAB rugby teams were out in full force last weekend supporting the Blow The Whistle campaign even though the weather conditions were somewhat less than desirable.

The match of the round was the much anticipated under-13 clash between unbeaten sides Rams Black and Pioneer.

Everything pointed to a close-fought affair but Rams Black got off to a flyer, racing out to a 17-0 halftime lead.

To Pioneer's credit, they hit back strongly in the second half, scoring some fine tries to even things up at 17-17 before Rams Black again took control and won by 39-17.

Also in the under-13s, Rams White were involved in an enthralling match with Eketahuna-Marist who were deserved 17-12 winners.

The under-11 grade saw Rams up against a powerful Pioneer combination and while they played well, Pioneer ran out decisive winners.

Both the Rams under-10 teams are on a roll, being the only unbeaten sides in the grade.

The Black squad beat Gladstone and the White squad defeated Greytown.

The under-9 Rams came up short against a hot Carterton team but in the under-8s, the three Rams teams all had wins.

The under-6 matches featured a battle between the two Rams sides with the Black squad taking the honours.

Results:

Under-6: Rams White - one loss, Rams Black - one win.

Under-8: Rams White - one win, Rams Black - two wins, Rams Grey - two wins.

Under-9: Carterton 50, Rams 5.

Under-10: Rams Black 65, Gladstone 5; Rams White 35, Greytown 25.

Under-11: Pioneer 67, Rams 14.

Under-13: Rams Black 39, Pioneer 17; Eketahuna-Marist 17, Rams White 12.

Rams player of the week was Tua Levi, a flanker in the under-13 Black team who scored two splendid tries and was a powerhouse on both attack and defence.

Gladstone's JAB teams were also well supported and there was plenty of support for the under-9s when they took on Pioneer. Both sides moved the ball around impressively with Pioneer scoring a 20-10 win.
