Testing hills were the order of the day when the Ruamahanga Rambers harriers took part in a cross country run-walk at Pearson's Farm, Hinau Gully at the weekend.
Each lap of the course covered 3km with road and gravel surfaces being experienced before 1.2kms of hill climbing.
Runners did two full laps and walkers two laps of the road section only.
The youngest runner, Matthew Furkert, put in a sterling effort to complete two loops of the road section and one of the hill while of the runners Paul Furkert and John Sage finished in the same time ahead of a bunched field.
Results (in order of actual time and handicap time):-
6km run: Paul Furkert 26.01, 26.01; John Sage 26.01, 23.30; Craig Ewing 26.38, 22.43; Greg Lang 26.38, 22.28; Steve Britland 28.03, 23.23; Craig Bird 29.00, 25.05; Ray Wallis 29.32, 22.57; John Cromarty 31.33, 25.33.
4,8km run: Matthew Furkert 28.30, 21.30.
3.6km walk: Tracey Furkert 20.27, 17.27; Ali Lang 22.23, 18.48; Norm Wilton 22.23, 22.23; Maxine Bird 25.23, 14.48.
This Saturday will see the Ruamhanga Ramblers hold an open handicap race on an easy running course at Waiwiri Farm, Gladstone while on the inter-club scene the Vosseler Shield races will be held over the slopes of Mt Victoria in Wellington.
