Ramblers' close finishes

A strong three-lap walk by 14-year-old Marshall Pitney highlighted an event held at Carters Reserve by the Ruamahanga Ramblers on Tuesday night.

Pitney maintained a slick pace and finished in 47mins 51secs.

Racing was held over three distances, 2.17km, 4.34km or 6.51km, and there were a couple of close finishes over the longer course. Doug Johnston and Paul Furkert rounded the final bend shoulder to shoulder with Johnston winning that battle by a head while three minutes later Nicholas Bailey, John Sage and Roger Jones sprinted hard over the last 50m with Bailey having the edge.
